Thermos Hercules Stainless Steel Flask – Tough and Dependable

Strong sturdy flask and not too heavy when full up. Tough enough to withstand my husband’s type of work and the contents stay hot for ages.

This is an excellent heat-holding flask, as you’d expect from this brand. My coffee was still hot enough after 11 hours which is pretty impressive. It’s a little large perhaps but perfect for a family picnic or even the solo traveller who won’t be able to access a kettle or cafe for several hours. It would also be handy if you knew you would be without power in the house for a while and wanted to keep a supply of hot water to hand. The cup is excellent, it’s so wide you could easily use it as a soup bowl. The handle is very comfortable to hold and the flask as a whole looks and feels balanced, a pleasing, if simple, design.

I have tried most flasks as being a football dad means standing in the cold a lot . However because it is completely sealed then no liquid can get inside the housing so it does not fail like other metal based flasks. Being metal also means dropping it does not mean smashing it so again it scores again. Hot liquid like coffee/tea/soup stays ‘drinkable’ hot for about 12 hrs, but even after this time whilst it does not go cold, some may find it below likeable drinking temperature but other s may find it fine. Bear in mind that most times you would not be keeping it hot past 12 hrs anyway. Scores 9/10 for me which is a score i do not give very often. Here are the specifications for the Thermos Hercules Stainless Steel Flask:

  • Thermos vacuum insulation technology for maximum temperature retention; keeps hot for 24 hours and cold for 24 hours
  • Rugged plastic outer shell and durable stainless steel interior with extra large cup
  • Twist and pour stopper allows you to pour without removing the stopper
  • Floats in water even when full
  • 5 year guarantee

Absolutely love this item, has saved me a fortune at work as we have to pay for very small cups of coffee at extortionate prices, keeps my drinks hot all day from 6am – 5pm.

Having used various flask’s for a few years at work and now retired, i needed a new one for taking with me for picnics and day trips out. This is the best one i have used for this purpose and keeps the water hot all day even if you don’t always prefill it with hot water as recommended. A smaller cheaper flask that i prefilled first didnt keep the water hot enough even for coffee as this thermos that was not prefilled. If you have the time it is always best to prefill it for a few mins while you reboil some more water.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Best flask we have owned!

  • This flask was brilliant – kept hot for the whole of his day

Strong non breakable and keeps drinks really hot.

This is a great thermos, which really keeps your tea hot. It is quite big and heavy though, but we do like it.

I work outdoors & need to keep warm this flask is great, large & lasts me all day, i have no complaints with it & its easy to clean too.

Great flask keeps warm all day.

Absolutely superb at keeping soup hot all day (and i do mean from very early morning until late st night) , the strength of this was unintentionally proven by being accidentally dropped down a flight of concrete stairs when full. No damage to the all important internal vacuum flask and only the slightest of grazes to the hard wearing plastic outer casing. The only thing we miss is a handle to the screw lid/cup but that really is a very minor issue. The cup itself is comfortable to hold. Haven’t tested the fladk’scsbility to float ( not sure to be honest when i would use that) but, even ignoring that feature, this is a very impressive flask with a good capacity.

Ideal flask for a truck driver.

Heat retention is excellent, nothing else matters to me.

Very strong flask keeps hot for hours.

Keeps water hot for 24 hours.

I fill the flask the night before with boiling water to warm the flask. Then discard this, add fresh boiling waterin the morning & the water remains hot all day long – only flask we have owned to actually fulfil this taskwe now own 2.

A well designed flash can pour a drink while on a bus and drink it without spilling a drop.

Have purchased two of these, one purchased from another supplier for coffee while i am running a market stall with my other half. When i have placed coffee in the flask at 5am the final dregs are still piping hot at 2pm in the afternoon even though i have been drinking cups all morning and the outdoor tempratures on occasion have been close to 0c. With this in mind i had been searching for a food flask and had purchased various to find they were pretty well useless, none managed to keep the food hot for long periods even when boasting 8-10 hours. Most failed to keep food warm period.Ultimately purchased hercules flask number two for use as a food flask, obviously it is not as good as a coventional food flask as you can’t eat food directly from the flask, so it limits what food you can use it for, but as i normally have some form of soup for lunch when on the market stall, this is not a major issue, just means for chunky soups the early cups are more liquid and the last ones are more chunks than soup. Not perfect i know, but it does result in mouth scaldingly hot food being available 6 or seven hours after being placed in the flask. With this in mind it would probably work fairly well with things like pasta in sauce or rice dishes as long as the chunks are not too big. Just for information with both flasks we fill them with boiling water and leave them standing to warm up for 15-30 minutes before placing the boiling coffee/soup in them, as would be the requirement for any flask, for effective operation. (hot water not wasted, does the washing up)not tested the flasks ability to float but they have been dropped/knocked of tables on to concrete paving with no more than minor scratches resulting. In summary this flask is well worth the money.

I purchased this flask for my husband – a market trader who has been through hundreds and complains they dont last after a few months. This flask was brilliant – kept hot for the whole of his day. The only problem is the cup on the top. He says that when its a windy day it can blow over when full of tea. This is a small design fault and would deter me from buying it – but if the cup was a as big on the rim as on the top then it would be perfect.

This flask was purchased as a gift – it has been well received and as the item was purchased for an outdoor individual – it is a must have for those who like the outdoor. Drink is kept hot or cold as described.

Not the best looking thermos on the market, the design is actually quite effective. The plastic protects the flask from damage, and the bulk allows it to float if for some reason you are using it on water. Despite the industrial looks it is actually surprisingly light, and the thick handle is comfortable to hold even while wearing work gloves. It has flat spots on the side opposite the handle which prevent it rolling away if stored on its side. In use it is simply amazing. At 1 pm i pre-warmed the flask for ten minutes before filling with coffee, which i made with real milk. Drinking half a cup of water every hour or so the coffee was still too hot to gulp at half ten at night. The only thing i would have improved would be the colour. If you are making a flask to use where there is a danger of it floating away then i would have made it in a brighter colour so that if it does fall in it isn’t camouflaged.

Keeps drinks hot for ages on the coldest winters days specially if you heat it with boiling water and pour away first. It’s tough and durable, just the job.

I bought this for a road trip around iceland. I did a lot a research on the best flask for keeping water hot for a full day, knowing there would be times where we would be in the middle of nowhere and this one kept coming up as the best. We would fill it on a morning before we left our accommodation and the water was still boiling hot by the end of the day, in fact it was still hot enough the next morning to make a coffee with. Being able to have a hot drink while stood next to a glacier was one of those nice little moments. If you need a flask that will keep the water hot all day long then this is well worth the money.

Well made, robust and lightweight. Bought this after a traditional glass flask broke inexplicably whilst in my favourite rucksack (it’ll never be the same again). Not cheap but a quality product. In this case, you definitely get what you pay for.

Better than my other older flasks. Tried a 12 hour test and the liquid was still very hot, not boiling but certainly hotter than any other flask. Thinking of getting another already.

Great quality and keeps tea hot for a long time. It’s easy to clean, i just let it soak for a bit at the end of the day with some baking soda. I pretty confident i could launch this at a brick wall and it would come out unscathed.

This is a really rock-solid thermos, suitable for harsh treatment, and ideal for camping, worksites, throwing the back of the car and general abuse. I haven’t used it for chilled drinks, but it keeps liquids really, really hot, for in excess of 6 hours, and still capable of burning after 8. Obviously this isn’t slim, light, but it isn’t designed for light travelling or commuting.

We often use a thermos for coffee when we go on days out so was happy to try this one out. This is a large thermos at 35cm high but it’s very light. As a test i filled this with hot water and left for over 24 hours and was pleased to find that it was still steaming hot. On recent day out we took coffee and used it three times during the day. The coffee was hot each time. It’s great that you don’t have to remove the stopper when pouring as this keeps the heat in. It’s a good size but it doesn’t have a handle and it’s hard to grip. I can’t get it undone and had to pass it to my husband every time.

An exceptionally good flask that does a great job of keeping the contents very hot or very cold. It isn’t pretty and initially i thought it would have been better without the chunky handle so i tried to use it without holding the handle. A mistake because when full the flask weighs in at 1. The handle allows for one-handed pouring which is useful if there’s nowhere to put the cup. With reference to the cup it holds 400 ml. A huge capacity in my opinion. I would have preferred a handle on the cup, or better still two cups like this. Without a handle the cup needs decent insulation and with the hottest liquids unfortunately this cup gets too hot to handle. Hence the removal of one star; if you have less sensitive skin pop the star back on.

There probably isn’t too much to add but i was impressed by how effective it is when compared to it;s utilitarian looks. I quite the look of it but others have commented that it looks like something from a pound shop. It seems quite well constructed and it has withstood a few scrapes. I have been using fairly regularly for a few weeks and i haven’t had any problems with it.

This flask looks a bit nondescript with it’s plastic body in battleship grey, but it’s really good at keeping things at a steady temperature (i have had piping-hot tea out of it after 10 hours, although i recommend storing the milk separately and adding as you drink. The lid/cup is plastic, but it stays cool enough in the hand; it’s a proper mug size, too. I’ve dropped this without it breaking, but perhaps i was just lucky – i’m not planning to let it happen again. For one person this is perhaps quite large, but the advantage is that you could put your food in here to keep it warm. We always warm the flask with boiling water before decanting hot liquids into flasks in our household, as the results are a lot better.

In a nutshell, this is a very practical, well made flask that does the job of keeping hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold very well. On the plus side the drinking cup is a good size, (i often find the cups are so small on flasks – to the point that they are just not practical)it also floats, which is kind of a neat idea. However it is let down by its looks. If looks are unimportant to you then add a star and buy this without hesitation, it is a great flask. If looks and design do matter this flask has a really cheap plastic feel to it. Not a rugged rubberised outdoors look, just a very plastic look. This detracts from the flask and for me makes it less desirable and so i have deducted a star taking it from “i love it” to “i like it”i hope these comments help. If you have any questions please just ask and i will be happy to help.

I have never used a flask this big; in fact i felt that i was carrying enough tea for at least half our office staff. I’m not complaining, because this enormous, rugged flask kept my ginger tea (one bag) piping hot for well over five hours. The casing is lightweight but solidly moulded and the screw top closes securely; takes a lot of turns to open, but that’s not a complaint. This is a high quality flask, definitely a boon for long days.

On the practicalities, i can’t fault this: it is practical, pretty rugged and, to my mind at least, it looks good albeit without the stainless steel flourishes of more fashionable flasks i have seen. Actually, i think i like it better for its plain simplicity. It has stainless steel, where it matter – inside, with a double skin of ss tubing instead of the fragile glass that i have been used to up until now. It says that it holds 1 litre, but allowing room for its substantial stopper, it holds a fraction over 900 ml and keeps the contents scalding hot after four hours of storage. You wouldn’t be ashamed to take this onto the building site, to a picnic, or in my case out for a day’s fishing where it is eminently practical. The cup is quite large, slightly thick which i assume helps to insulate the contents and protects the lip from burning and it has only the merest aroma of plastic that does not, so far, affect the flavours poured into it.
