We bought this urn to stop the 5 minute wait and general loss of productivity as staff stood around waiting for it to boil – and it has really served its purpose. This is a big earn – we use it in our office for 12 people and only need to fill it up every day or so. It is a bit basic in that it heats all of the water, so this could be seen as not very energy efficient, especially over night if someone forgets to switch it off. So we purchased a digital wall power plug with a timer, it switches the urn on 10 minutes before work and 10 minutes after and off all weekend (make sure you get a digital one with 7 day individual control if you are using it in an office) and now we don’t have to worry about the human element. It is supposed to switch off before it boils dry – but we haven’t tested this as yet.
I use this on a daily basis from 7am-6pm mon-fri, serving around 50–70 cups a day. I have only been using this for a month and so far so good. It arrived quickly and well packaged. The package did not look damaged in the slightest, boost of confidence my product is all well inside. After installing, rinsing and using – wow. We love it, keeps water at desired temperature for tea and coffee. Has made our lives a hell of a lot easier. Agaij it has only been a month but i went for this because of the label, and so far it has not disappointed.
Holds loads, gets nice and hot and stays hot. The little metal dish that sits in a plastic tray doesn’t really stay put if moved, but it can be lived with. Here are the specifications for the Swan SWU8L 8 Litre:
- Boil up to 32 cups at once with the generous 8L capacity
- Durable stainless steel construction and drip tray to catch any extra spillages
- Concealed heating element and simmerstat control
- Unique style steam vented lid fitting
- Keep hot function for your convenience, can also be used for hot cider and mulled wine
This is exactly what we wanted. The lid is a great safety feature, it can’t be easily knocked off as in others i have seen. Would definitely recommend it.
The urn was bought for the use in a village hall. It was used for the first time last night by the wi it pleased them.

Bought this to help cater for a funeral tea , the urn is easy to use a very quick to boil.
Great for the office of 14 people – faster than a kettleonly thing – i wish it had a timer as first in switches it on – but has to wait for a cuppalast out has to remember to switch it off heats hot enough though i dont think its quite as hot as boiling kettle personally – not far off – but not quite to that level of ”boiling ‘so far so good.
Really pleased with this urn. Provided teas and coffees through a garden party (70 people) and the next morning with ease. Had 25 guests at breakfast the next day and it did not need a refill. Water temp was perfect for teas and not too hot for coffee (no granule scorching). Also very useful for a day when you are deep cleaning the house and do not want to keep running the taps for hot water.
Just what we needed for am dram rehearsal nights. Boils up quickly – 20 minutes – and provides enough for a company of 30 members using mugs. Leave it on between 4 and 5 on the dial and it ticks over. People then help themselves as they need.
I open our garden to raise money for ngs charities and therefore offer teas/coffees. In past years i have relied upon the constant boiling of kettles but this swan 10 litre catering urn has brought new meeaning and efficiency to ‘refreshments served here’. It is unlike any water boiler that i have seen in the past because it is designed to blend into even a small kitchen, like mine. When it is required, it sits neatly on the worktop and is very easy to fill, boil and senses when to switch over to simmer stat to prevent wasted electricity. When it is not required it is easy to empty and does not take up an inordinate amount storage space. This is the first water boiler that i have ever seen that does not condensate and leave the room and walls running with water, even my kettle used to give me grief when it was constantly being boiled up, not to mention the fact that it never held enough water to accommodate an entire order, and then had to be replaced with a new kettle a couple of weeks later as it was not up to the job. Anyway, back to the water boiler; i had read in the literature, before buying, that it had a specially designed lid to prevent kitchens and the like from condentating, but i was sceptical as to whether it really would live up to my expectations – trust me, it does. Whilst i am on about the lid, it has a locking turn to prevent anybody accidently trying to pull it off when it is in use. I had been concerned about the ‘tap’ because there was some comment in buyer feedback about the older machine with its metal tap (i believe that it the one that is often featured in the promotional photo) as opposed to the newer urn with a black plastic tap. Mine has the newer tap and all of my helpers agreed that the urn has revolutionised our ability to ‘do teas and coffees for garden visitors’ indeed if i have a family tea party i will not hesitate to put my urn into service as it happily produces boiled water for hours on end (although please remember to check on it part way through a busy event to ensure it does not want topping up) each time i use it i have it switched on for approximately 8 hours.
Super product , used all day in buzy office , warms up quickly , saves so much time. Will not return to a kettle .
Great size, locking lid, great quality and boils surprisingly quickly. Very impressed and highly recommend.
Purchased for my elderly father after his central heating boiler broke down and he didn’t have any hot water. Brilliant piece of kit, would highly recommend. Haven’t tried filling it to the top but, at half full, and with the setting on number 3, it takes only about 10minutes to warm water sufficiently for a wash or to do the washing up. Obviously would take longer to reach the boil, but you can use a kettle if you need boiling water. In built thermostat keeps water at desired temperature. Although made of plastic, the sides do not get uncomfortably hot, so no real danger of scalding (although i’ve not tried it up to the boil). Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a portable, effective water heater.
This was a handy size about 16′ tall for it fitted in the church kitchen under the wall cupboards. Nice size, makes nearly 2 gallons of tea or coffee. It is easy to carry (when empty of course) and keeps water at or very near boiling with minimum steaming. The thermostat works well and the plastic body means it is not too hot outside.
Our central heating boiler packed up over the weekend and having a young family hot water and heating was essential. The part for the boiler was going to take a fews days for delivery and there i needed to find an interim solution. I wanted to buy an urn that would provide ample hot water and do it in a reasonable time. This urn boils water in 15-20 mins. I also decided to buy this particular sized urn so that it could be used during family celebrations etc. It also has a keep it warm function which proved invaluable for our family. The heating element is also concealed.
Keeps red hot and makes a perfect cup of tea. Takes 10 mins to heat up and keeps boiling all day. You can set it to how often it reboils which is perfect.
Basically, out of box, plug in and there’s hot water for 60 cups. Stays hot, even on warm setting. Light and very very easy to use.
At last, no more messing about with jugs in a microwave. This brilliant little urn heated my gluhwein up in no time and kept it hot all night.
I got this boiler for our staff room at school which needs to be on all the time with hot water ‘at the ready’ the minute the bell goes for break. It’s great as it doesn’t fill the room with steam like the other one did but still maintains the water at the same temperature. The drip tray has been voted ‘great’ by the staff too. I would recommend this to anyone to buy. If i were recommending a slight change to the manufacturers, i would ask them to make the power lead removable just for ease of use. However this doesn’t affect its value as a great urn. Get this one – it’s cheaper than the last one i bought and much better quality.
Working great at the moment and doing exactly what we wanted here in the office.
