Philips HD9300/90 Daily Collection Kettle : Good for the price

A visually pleasant kettle that works well but is fitted with a 2 pin moulded euro plug. (safety) regulations 1994 requires that domestic mains powered appliances are fitted with a standard plug conforming to bs 1363. This requirement is often ignored by on-line sellers and many products are sold with european (and sometimes american) mains plugs instead of uk standard plugs. Amazon needs to learn to comply with the current legal regulations.

Cool design, does what it should do. I had to change the plug because i live in the netherlands.

Philips HD9300/90 Daily Collection Kettle, 1.6 Litre, 2400 Watt – Black

  • Easy lid and spout filling

  • Cord winder for easy storage
  • Cordless 360° pirouette base for easy lifting and placing

Good but not as quiet and fast as our old philips kettle which unfortunately i now can’t remember what model that was. Hopefully it will be as reliable though.

There are so many conflicting reviews for the kettles on amazon and, no matter how reputable the brand, or high the cost, it seemed to me that there wasn’t a single model which didn’t have poor reviews from at least 10% of its purchasers. I went for this model becuase it had hardly any reviews – hence there weren’t enough bad ones to put me off. For £20 i was prepared to take a gamble. Well, it has paid off so far. I cleaned the kettle, as per the instructions, before use (although it doesn’t actually specify cleaning before you start using it) and have yet to find any peculiar odours. It’s not the quietest kettle i’ve ever used, but certainly not the noisiest. It’s inoffensive to the eye and, yes you guessed it, it boils water pretty swiftly. If it explodes and i live to tell the tale, i’ll be sure to update my review.

Reasonable price, looks good and arrived on time. Unfortunately, the kettle was supplied with a 2-pin euro plug on the base power supply. Amazon returns policy is great – i have returned for a refund. Pity no mention of power plug type in the amazon product description. I have ordered a replacement – again from amazon – but a different manufacturer. Hope for better luck this time – there are pictures of this kettle with a uk plug on the base power supply. Amazon won’t allow me to mention which one i chose as replacement but i’ll do a short review if it’s any good. How hard it is to source a safe and reliable electric kettle?.

Philips HD9300/90 Daily Collection Kettle, 1.6 Litre, 2400 Watt – Black : This really is the perfect kettle. A comfortable handle, clear markings, and a filter which is easy to remove and replace (for cleaning). At first i thought the cable was too short, until i found some spare cable wound round the underside of the base. I’m glad i bought this kettle.

This kettle functions perfectly well. You can choose to boil only enough for one mug of tea which suits me since i often make a mug of tea just for myself and i dislike the energy waste of boiling more than i need. After years of stove-top whistling kettles it seems fast but noisy, but i have no reason to think it is louder than any other electric kettle. The problem is that it looks tacky. Cheap, tacky, shiny, black plastic. I wish i’d spent more and got something with some style about it.

Boils quickly, looks great, easy to see how much water is in it. The only downside is that you have to manually lift the lid, but i can’t mark it down for this as i was aware of it before ordering.

Good price and does the job as expected.

Another of the many kettles on the market, bought this kettle as it is adequate for two people and after experiencing a bad buy of a chinese made kettle last year thought we should stick with a reliable maker.

This is a super jug kettle and over the years the third one that we have bought. Because they are popular it is difficult to find them in super stores so getting one from amazon is the answer the only down side with all these types of kettle is the very fine filter which does take a bit of cleaning. Most people do without the filter in the end.

The facts buyers need are often what sellers/manufacturers [not to mention reviewers neglect in favour of telling you how well it goes with the curtains. Even those listed here are misleading in one or two cases, and it’s a particular risk to product quality when company employees spend their time away from the coal face writing flattering amazon reviews, as i suspect happened here. I’m guessing dwellers in cramped bedsits or anyone for whom space is at a premium might prefer a few numbers so that’s where i’ll start:1] dimensions: the [separate] base of this item is 16cm diameter. The kettle’s height [base included] is 22cm. Allow a further 22cm `across’ between the tip of the spout to the outer edge of the handle. You’ll be pleased to hear that with leads the parsimonious affairs they are these days this one is no exception, the amount of cable you actually have to play with – i measured from the edge of the base to the start of the plug moulding – being a mere 64cm [not the disingenuous `75cm’ stated above]. 2] function: `boils’ a full tank of 1. 5 litres in under 4 minutes. `boils’ 1 litre in under 2 minutes. No illumination at switch-on. ]

It’s a good-looking, reliable and efficient small kettle which takes up little space on the counter. Ideal for elderly people as it is very light and has a short cord.

After my trials with the morphy richards opera [graphite, when it finally died, noisily spluttering steam, boiling water and us cheering, i had to go back to looking at reviews and so on. But this one had not been reviewed anywhere at all. So i looked at the phillips range and saw that this one may well have been a redesign of a previous good’un. So i took a chance:so far – it is lighter than the morphy richards – good. It pours nicely – the spout has a good v shape. It is easy to fill through the spout. The top opens easily, no struggle, and closes with a firm click. On /off switch – clean and firm operation. Handle – easier to hold and manipulate than the m-r. Boils more quickly than the m-rmuch quieter than the m-r. ]

A very good kettle and base for the price. The kettle drops onto the base with no fuss. Although the kettle does not have a light i don’t think it is necessary.

Good kettle, works great after 2 years.

Fast and silent electric kettle. The filter is easy to remove and wash.

My philips kettle is working well.

  1. 1.0 out of 5 stars European plug! Do NOT buy if you live in the UK.

Do not buy this kettle if you live in the uk. Kettle has just arrived and it is not a uk plug, it is a european plug. And i should have read the reviews to see that this was the case. Have just looked it up and seems easy enough to send it back. Update: i received an e-mail saying the kettle would be picked up from the house two days ago to be returned. I would receive an e-mail from the delivery company giving a one hour slot (up until 18. That was two days ago and the kettle is still here, in its box, waiting to be returned.

We had to return the kettle because it came with a 2-pin european plug, so it was useless to us.

Thankfully the return to amazon was easy. When it did work, i noticed 3 annoying things. When pouring, water doesn’t flow out easily and sometimes spills on the worktop if poured too quickly. There’s no indicator light to show it’s on. If you pick it up, before it has switched off and put it back on the base it stays on. Most kettles auto switch off when removed from the base.

The pouring of the water out the kettle goes to one side. This is due to the inside filter which i tried but cannot make any better.
