Searched for ages to replace our thermal coffee maker and came across the phillips. Lives up to the reviews i read and we are delighted with it.
This machine makes coffee and keeps it hot ,without a heating plate, in a flask jug. The jug is metal so it won’t break like the glass ones do. The pourer is fantastic doesn’t spill a drop. The lid design is very simple and effective. If you leave a small amount of coffee in the flask it does loose it’s heat after a couple of hours but a full or nearly full jug stays very hot (with steam) for at least a couple of hours (i haven’t tried it any longer than that). I am very happy with this machine, i bought it from the german amazon as it was substantially cheaper and bought a conversion plug on amazon too.
This is a very useful unit for domestic use. The thermos keeps the coffee hot and being portable makes serving to guests easy.

“Works very well – even if the erganomics are not first class
, Love It
, Excellent service – very fast delivery from mainland Europe
Best coffee maker i had , good price too.
– well designed jug pouring device and drip stop device. (good points) unbreakable fully stainless thermos flask is perfect, unlike glass thermos flask with stainless outer on other models. (bad points) high price and was lightweight and cheap plastic than i expected. Overall, i am very happy with this one, after sending back another similar product. Yes its expensive, but its the best i could find.
We have had a similar coffee maker before but this is much better quality. The metal jug keeps coffee longer, it also feels more robust.
Could be just a little bit cheaper, but love the thermos jug rather than a glass jug.
An easy to use machine for my morning coffee- very similar to one i used on the continent.
I, like another reviewer, cannot for the life of me understand the negative reviews. Because of them i nearly didn’t buy this fab coffee maker. Previously i had a russell hobbs thermos coffee maker that broke and i was disappointed that it was no longer made. But buying this – if you can be ecstatic over a coffee maker, then i am. The jug takes five mugs of coffee and takes five minutes from start to finish to brew. The rh kept coffee hot for about an hour, tops. This phillips keeps the coffee hot for hours on end. In fact some left in the jug overnight was still warm the next morning. And the plug, although continental, comes with a uk adapter in place.
I make/drink a lot of coffee and in the morning prefer to have a multi-serving jug of the stuff available, as opposed to individually made mugs using my senseo ‘pad’ (nb not ‘pod’ ) machine. This hd 7546/20 machine has proved to be an excellent choice, especially as it is so practical with features quickly becoming prevalent amongst such machines but, unfortunately, at a usually higher somewhat exorbitant price for what is such a simple (yet notoriously unreliable ) device. . Before i continue i should mention that i was not dissuaded by a couple of negative reviews of this item – i think it raises some issues perhaps more important than the ‘mundane’ subject of coffee-making, so shall cover them later. . Previously a user of the ubiquitous filter-drip/glass jug/hotplate variety of maker, once i’d bought a similar machine to this one with the same ‘thermo carafe’ feature i had finally ‘discovered’ the better way to reliably make filter coffee and keep it hot .I’ll give info on that alternative later on as it can often be bought for a lower price than this one, albeit it isn’t imho quite as good in some respects. . So, what makes the design of this philips maker so successful ?1. The valved-lid means that coffee heat/aroma cannot ‘leak’ out during the making process and thereafter when serving/pouring. The design of that valved-lid makes it very practical to use as you rotate a lever for either pouring/filling/sealing. Coffee is kept hot within the carafe as it’s insulated (in this case the interior is steel as opposed to the glass vacuum flask variety). The steel interior means that coffee is kept hotter, for longer and also makes the carafe far less vulnerable to breakage. After all the hot water has been ‘released’ the machine turns itself off automatically – this is (of course) because there is no hotplate so power is no longer required, which is another advantage 6.
Nothing to dislike could not get this in the uk, this item was sent from germany in rapid time.
It works as described with no problems. Previous machines had a detachable reservoir which made them easier to fill.
The lid is easy to open/close. Because the jug is a thermos type flask as opposed to a conventional glass jug, there is no hot-plate to keep the coffee warm but i have not found that a problem. I would certainly recommend this coffee maker.
I bought this coffee maker cos i wanted one that kept the coffee warm but did not keep it stewed like most of the others. This was perfect for the job as the jug keeps coffee hot for hours like a thermos and now bitter stewed taste.
Makes good coffee and keeps it warm for ages.
This is a coffee maker that works very well indeed – though the ergonomics are hardly first class. The bad points: the plastic covers are flimsy – though users’ experiences confirm that in long-term use this has not caused any problems; the water tank lid opens forwards – making filling rather awkward – and the highly effective insulated metal jug (with its ingenious lid mechanism) does have to be tipped up at an uncomfortable angle when pouring. However, on balance, it’s a splendidly effective device with the coffee staying hot in the jug for a good 30 minutes or more. Despite the over-the-top price, i’d recommend it.
The coffee it produces is great. It could pour a little faster and the lid can’t be worked with one hand. I was used to my bosch with the lid opening by pressing with my thumb. This one requires a much bigger hand than i have. It doesn’t have a timer, but i never really needed this function anyway and all you really want is a good cup of coffee and this machien produces jsut that.
I don’t understand other negative reviews – this machine is brilliant – very fast very high quality – makes superb coffee. I have used every day for 2 years and it still looks like new this was after several machines from de longhi & john lewis which broke down within a few weeks – because of pointless over complicated controls. This philips machine has a single on button and automatically switches off when ready – simple reliable perfect. I love filter coffee – especially tesco finest costa rica which is amazing – gives a much better caffeine hit than espresso, also less calories & less filling than the milk shakes from starbucks. To get great taste you need a machine like this – which uses a thermos jug and paper filters – this is essential most filter coffee machines ruin the coffee by stewing it – it is surprisingly hard to get a machine like this in uk because of the fashion for very expensive to run nespresso type machines. Anyway the german supplier was very efficient and included a uk adapter so i highly recommend them, i’m just about to buy 3 more as christmas presents.
You need to add a an extra tablespoon of coffee to it though otherwise it tastes a bit weak.
Very fast to brew, then it switches off automatically. Coffee kept nice and hot in the thermos jug – much better than it being kept warm by a hot-plate as with other coffee-makers, as this very quickly results in a stewed drink. It also obviously saves energy. No timer, but i have mine plugged into the mains via a remote-controlled adaptor, so i can switch it on from my bed when i wake-up using the remote. This works very well indeed, especially with the coffee then being ready so soon. Only one negative point – it comes with a continental two-prong mains plug, rather than a uk one, so you either need to use an adaptor, or cut the existing plug off and put on a british one.
Came within a week from germany. Love the coffee maker, it’s so difficult to get a metal jug these days. A european adaptor came with the coffee maker so didn’t have to by one, the only downside was that there were no instructions with the adaptor and at first we thought it wasn’t going to fit as the plug on the coffee maker wouldn’t stay in the adaptor, you really have to use some force to get it to click in which we didn’t do at first in case we broke it. Once fitted the coffee maker was great and very easy to operate.
We chose this machine first of all because we liked the look of it (would have preferred a different colour though rather than black) and are very pleased with the solidness of it. Coffee is filtered through fairly quickly, fairly quietly and it certainly stays quite hot in the pot, although we don’t let it sit for hoursthe one star deduction is mainly concerning the water gauge – we find it is a little tricky to see the exact level when filling with water which i attribute partly to the darkness, i. However, we are very pleased to have bought this filter coffee machine (our preference is filter coffee rather than ‘fancy’ coffees) and can thoroughly recommend it. Time will tell i suppose as we’ve only used it for just under a month.
Firstly, i call this machine ‘big phil’. It’s strong, sturdy and makes blooming good coffee. From the insulated jug, to zero hotplates, to never having to worry about dripping coffee everywhere, this excels. I’d go as far as saying it’s damn near idiot proof. Some people gripe at paper filters. Makes cleaning and recycling so much faster as you just take the lid out and empty it into your bin of choice. No spooning out coffee grains. Functionalitybig phil works quick.
This was a replacement for a previous russell hobbs machine which i loved and had had for many years. This product is as good if not better and we are delighted with it. My only negative is the free plug adapter is white (not a big deal). I would recommend this product without hesitation.
