This is my second breville brita kettle which i chose because the first one lasted so long. The water runs through the filter very quickly so no need to wait to switch it on and the filter container is not so big that it limits the amount of water you can boil at one time. Kettle looks good and i like the blue light.
I have not had this kettle very long but i love it. My previous kettle was a breville but more kettle shape, this one is jug shaped. First of all it is so much quieter and my previous one which was in stainless steel. I bought this jug one because of the brita filter element, i live in a very hard water area. Up to just it is meeting all my requirements.
Great product – looks good and filters/boils very quickly.
- Nice looking and reasonably priced.
- Breville Brits Filter Jug Kettle
- Tried and tested
Limited amount of water per serving. A little heavy due to the brita filter.
The filter cartridge slots in really easily, it filters quickly and boils quickly. Really good product and you can get the filter cartridges on amazon too. You can actually taste the difference.

We live in an area where the water is very hard so we had to descale our kettle every two to three weeks to stop little bits of limescale filtering into our drinks. So we thought we would try this kettle to see if made a difference. In a nutshell, it doeswe have been using the kettle for over a week and there are no signs of limescale either in the kettle or our drinks. Even guests have comments on the great taste of their teas and coffees. The kettle comes with a brita max filter which is very easy to install. However, there are a few niggles for me:- it does take a long time to fill in. The instructions say that you can start boiling at the same time the water is being filtered but we found that the water was not as hot as if you wait until the water is completely filtered through. – you can only add two cups at the time- the kettle is fairly big but you can only boil enough water for 4 cups (1 litre) so it’s not very useful for boiling water to cook pasta, etc- the filters are a little bit expensive and they have to be replaced every four weeks or soso, if you have time to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea, this is perfect. Otherwise, i would just settle for a normal one and descale it frequently, as we normally do.
Always use breville well made sturdy easy to fill.
One of the downsides of living in london is having to drink the heavily calcified and fluoridated ‘hard’ water which tastes disgusting and leaves ‘scum’ floating on cups of tea or coffee. Some very rich people therefore buy expensive – cumulatively – bottled water and drink that but there is a much better and cheaper way to enjoy nice tasting water free of nasty additives. This breville kettle filters out the impurities through the replaceable maxtra filters (available in supermarkets). Hot drinks taste fantastic with nothing floating around on them except whatever you wish to add yourself. With a lovely blue glow when turned on , this kettle is an absolute delight and a must for anyone who lives in an area where their tap water tastes unpleasant. I thoroughly recommend this fantastic 1 litre kettle.
The first one leaked but i got a replacement really quickly. You have to wait for the water to filter, but that is to be expected it’s filtering. So nice not having to descale the kettle so much 👍.
Quick boiling, takes a reasonable amount of water unlike some other brita type kettles. Cant fault it really, only time will tell if it fails like my last kettle after 18 months. But for £20 you cant expect miracles.
It’s ok but i feel it’s better to use a normal water filter as i feel the heat from the kettle reduces the life of the filter cartridge, i have noticed a chalk flavour at times. Also tastes of plastic at times. The solid heating plate after just 4 days started obtaining scale. My advice is to filter your water separately. I do like the design of the kettle however.
The kettle is a little bigger then i thought, but in all honesty it doesn’t matter, does the job.
Bit disappointed with this kettle. But hold much less water thank my previous model, hence the low rating.
Bought this kettle for elderly parents. They can’t over fill this kettle so it is safer. The marker tells you when you need a new filter. It doesn’t hold a lot of water so you only boil what you need.
This is a one litre 3kw kettle that fills four to five mugs. It looks as though it has a bigger capacity as a large part of the top section houses the funnel and brita maxtra filter. The handle and release button are well designed, the lid fits well and the spout pours cleanly. Whilst heating up, the handle and translucent part of the body are illuminated in blue. Each brita filter lasts about four weeks and can be purchased in packs of six or twelve from amazon amongst others. The kettle comes with one filter. For comparison tests we tried filtered water from the kettle for green tea, instant black coffee, breakfast tea with milk and, cold water. The green tea was a noticeable improvement as it had a sweeter taste without an after taste of vegetation. We couldn’t detect any difference with the black coffee or the plain cold water, but the breakfast tea was not bad considering we were using longlife milk. It’s fine for one to five cups but it’s not practical if a lot more water is needed, such as for pasta.
Fine but expected stainless steel not plastic according to picture.
Living in norfolk i have very hard water to contend with. I decided soon after i moved here that i would have to try a filter kettle. I did and could immediately tell the difference. Even using a filter i get limescale build up and i reckon that a kettle will only really easy 18 months to 2 years here. The drawback with all kettles i have had with a built in filter is that the available space for water to be boiled is reduced, so if a largish quantity of water is needed this kettle can be a bit limiting. However, it is worth that in my view, for the improved end result. The built in memo feature is useful too. Cartridges are not cheap – though if you keep a look out amazon doe sometimes (black friday for example) do some cracking deals on cartridges. In the past couple of years i have stocked up in bulk for the year ahead and that has worked very well.
Designed for hard water areas, the combination of a brita filter with a reasonably stylish kettle is an attractive one. Performance is good, noise is not excessive and the blue illumination adds a little interest to the mundane process of boiling water. Filling is easy and the kettle itself is comfortable to hold. Brita maxtra filters are readily available and effective. You will however have to budget for replacing the filter on a regular basis. The indicator on the kettle theoretically relates to useage but our experience indicates a monthly replacement cycle. The main drawback is that the need to accommodate the brita maxtra filter and the filling chamber limits capacity to circa 1 litre. In addition, the filtration process means filling the litre can take some time. Overall therefore, i would suggest this kettle is best suited for individuals or couples/ young families that don’t require a large amount of boiled water quickly. If capacity is not an issue and you live in a hard water area, this kettle will give you an effective way of avoiding the dreaded limescale and it will improve the taste of drinks.
I live in the south-west and my locality has the worst water i have ever tasted. This is backed up by friends and neighbours. It ruins a good cup of tea and as i drink various herbal teas or green tea i can really tell the difference. I have to filter the water first. I have been using brita filters for longer than i can remember. They work well, and you can usually buy them cheaper in deals and in bulk on amazon around black friday time. This kettle, is attractive and simple to use. There is a plastic insert which holds the filter. The instructions are easy to follow. In minutes you can be boiling the kettle for a good cup of tea.
This is the second brevile kettle we’ve had, the old one lasted 8 years, hopefully this one will as well.
Very good kettle for a small kitchen.
The downside is that you have to wait a couple of minutes to fill the kettle + a bit longer if you need to fill more than a couple of cups. You have to fill the it halfway, let that filter, then top it up. My husband finds it really annoying but i think it’s worth a little inconvenience to have filtered water and i don’t want all that scale in the bottom of the kettle.
One of the best kettles i’ve ever had. Holds a large capacity of water.
